Christmas Break is Almost Here!!!!

Christmas break is almost upon us.  Our last day is December the 21st and we will be going all day.  Our Christmas vacation lasts until January 4, 2011.  How exciting is that, the new year is right around the corner.  Here at CJHS, we have had basketball games, UIL competition and we have already preparing for our TAKS tests in the Spring.  Over the Christmas break, be sure to log on to Teen Biz, and VMath and VMath Live to keep your skills sharp while you're away from school.  Here is a recent photo of some students during Red Ribbon Week for Cowboy Day...

Howdy Partner!!  I hope everyone has  a great break and is ready to get back to work come January!!

Look right over there!!!

Did you see something new on our blog?? I was notified that this little ole' blog won an award for Best Class Blog in the Southern Region.  How fun is that?  They gave me a badge to proudly display on my website!! Yeah CJHS!!!

Last week we wrapped up Red Ribbon week where we discussed how important it was to stay off drugs.  Famous PRCA calf roper Stran Smith spoke to the students about setting goals and dreaming big.  The most important message that he shared with us was what you do everyday, eventually you will become.  So everyone needs to read, read, read and soon you will become the best reader around.  In Math class, the students and I figured how much money we could save if people quit smoking.  If someone quit smoking for five years, they would save nearly $10,000.  Can you believe that?  The math students were shocked to realize that.

I encourage everyone to remember what they are thankful for in this month of Thanksgiving!

Spring Break - here we come!

This is the next to last day before spring break! WooHoo!!! I know that all of the students and not just in my class are ready! I will be gone on Friday the 12th to be with my Dad in Houston (he's had some health problems) so in a sense I will be starting my vacation a touch early.

Here are a few things to remember for when we get back from break:

1. Our snow day make-up days are April 2nd and April 24th. Now you did read this right - April 2nd is a Friday and April 24th is a SATURDAY! We will be attending class from 8a.m. to 12.p.m. I know that you may be shocked but it will fly by just wait and see!

2. April 6th is TAKS for 8th grade Mathematics and April 7th is TAKS for 8th grade Reading. Will you be ready? I hope so!

Have a great break and come back ready to work!

Whew!!!!

Today was the Writing TAKS - I'm really glad that it's over and done. My classes have been practicing for this day since the very beginning of the school year!! We have written about many, many topics so hopefully everyone did well. Don't forget to make sure of the dates of the next tests! They are going to be in April. Spring break is coming soon - I just know that everyone has big plans even if it's to relax at the house!!!!

Thursday will be the school's first track meet of the year. I can't wait to see how my students perform. Chloe is running hurdles for sure so we'll have to really root her on!!!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and or concerns!!!
