End of the Year!!!

The end of the year has finally come.  There are many, many things that are happening!  At the end of this week, on Friday, all the students who had great behavior this semester will go to the park!  There will be a giant water slide, games, food and fun!!! I can't wait!  The students are so looking forward to it!  If your child gets to go, tell them congratulations because they have earned it!!  Also, next week, on Thursday and Friday, we will have semester tests!  Your child will know definitely whether or not they have to take the tests by Friday.  We will review for the tests on Tuesday and Wednesday before the tests.

I have had the best year!  I was blessed to have some of the greatest students this year!  I will be sad to see the 8th graders leave but I know they will have the best opportunities at high school.  I can't wait until the fall when we can start all over again!

Persuasive Writing...

We have been working on persuasive writing.  Each class paired up in small groups and worked on a presentation to persuade the other groups that their season was the best.  They had to use graphs, scientific information, pictures, clip arts, and the most favorite some sort of celebrity or famous person quoting that they loved a particular season the best.  I was really impressed with the student's work.  They all did a great job on their presentations and a great job on their projects.  Keep up the good work!

Friday, March 20, 2009

It's almost time to go back to school from spring break!  When we get back, we have a lot of things we still need to work on!  This year has totally flown by but it's not over yet!  I'll see you when we get back!

Gone Again...

I went to Amarillo to a TAKS M writing training today, January 26th.  I really missed all my kids but I learned a lot of neat ideas.  I can't wait to do some of the projects with my students.  I think they will enjoy them.  Tomorrow we will start school late due to the bad weather.  So every one sleep in just a little bit and be ready to work!!!!

Sentences and more Sentences!

Here's another project that my classes worked on to master writing sentences.  Each group was given a simple sentence and their instructions were to expand the sentence by using adjectives and adverbs.  The group with the longest sentence that makes sense won!

Look what we've been up to!

My classes have really been busy.  We've been working on our Reading skills as well as writing and expanding  complete sentences by using adjectives and adverbs.  Here are some students working on finding different types of sentences in a passage.  Each group that got closest to the right answer received a ticket to be placed in a drawing for some small prizes.  The students did awesome!

Welcome Back!

This day was officially the first day of the new semester.  We will really get busy on TAKS practices.  The students have really been working hard to remember everything that they've learned so far and use it to successfully complete the TAKS.  This week we will have a practice TAKS reading test on Wednesday and Thursday.  If necessary we will finish up on Friday.

Here are some pictures from class and as you can tell, some of the students are really working hard journaling on the computer.

Just a reminder, we will be working on TAKS practices every week until our test!
